Born in 1898, he completed his Doctorate in Philosophy from Columbia University in the United States. During his education in the US, he was very inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals and his role in the Freedom Movement against the British. Sakal was a newspaper that wrote extensively about the Freedom Movement, and highlighted the excesses perpetrated by the British. He was awarded the country’s third highest civilian honor, Padma Bhushan in 1969.
